Our Story
I'm Joel Dean, the founder of 585 Ramps. Our story began in 2002, when a simple idea—born out of necessity and passion—led to the creation of something that would change the way we transport our dirt bikes. At the time, I was working in construction during the week and spending my weekends riding dirt bikes. My friend and I found ourselves struggling with limited space and constantly juggling gear and gas in the truck bed. So, we set out to create a solution: a combination ramp and truck bed extender that could simplify both tasks.
With a bit of creativity and some fabrication skills, we built two ramps and a custom bracket to fit my 2002 Chevy. The concept worked so well that soon friends and family started asking where they could get one for themselves.
The name 585 holds special significance for me. It started as my truck's license plate number, then became my race number, my kids' racing numbers, and eventually, the name of this business.
Fast forward 21 years, and here we are. Encouraged by friends and a growing demand for our design, we officially launched 585 Ramps. We’ve since partnered with a local Alberta company to perfect our ramp design, creating an even more refined product alongside several accessories to complement it. And yes, the original ramp I built in 2002 is still going strong—a testament to the durability and quality we prioritize in everything we create.
On a personal note, I’m fortunate to share this journey with my wife and our blended family of four incredible kids. Were both passionate about the outdoors, whether it's riding dirt bikes, camping, or volunteering to preserve the trails and land we love.

What is the length of the ramps?The ramps are 96 inches long, offering the ideal length for a gentle, easy-loading angle. This design provides a smooth and safe loading experience, ensuring convenience for all users without being too steep.

Are the ramps available in different colors?The ramps are available in a variety of colors for an additional cost. We can also fulfill special orders for custom colors upon request. However, black is our most popular and always-in-stock color due to its versatility. All colors are applied using a durable powder coating process for a sleek, long-lasting finish.

How is the bed extender attached to my truck?The ramps are securely attached to your truck's tailgate latching point using a custom-fitted bracket designed for your specific truck brand. Once the bracket is in place, the ramp is fastened with either a carabiner or, for added security, a lock. This ensures a stable, reliable connection during use, and the ramp remains steady on the tailgate, preventing any bouncing or shifting.

Is it safe to ride up the ramp to load my bike?No, this is not safe and we do not recommend it. While the ramp is built to be strong and durable, riding up it can be dangerous for both the rider and the vehicle, potentially leading to accidents or damage. For safety, always secure the ramp properly before loading, and manually load your bike to minimize risk. The owner of 585 Ramps is not liable for accidents, injuries, or damages resulting from improper or unsafe use of the ramp. Your safety is our top priority.

What is the cost of shipping?Shipping is an additional cost, but we will ensure it’s handled in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible. With our combined business experience, we’re able to offer competitive pricing and reliable delivery options. For customers near Calgary and Airdrie, you're welcome to stop by, or we may be able to arrange a local delivery when possible.

What is the weight capacity of the ramp?The ramp is rated to support up to 500 lbs when used as intended. This rating is based on safe, proper usage. Misuse may compromise the ramp’s integrity and pose safety risks. Always ensure the ramp is securely strapped to your vehicle to prevent movement during use. When used as a bed extender, it is the responsibility of the driver or vehicle owner to ensure the load is within the vehicle's capacity and properly secured. Always tie down and secure your loads to maintain safety and prevent accidents. 585 Ramps is not responsible for misuse of the Ramp or Unsecured Loads.
